Hickory has a reputation of being one of the "higher end woods." True or not, the wood is a classic and always seems to be the choice of exceptional wood finishing. It is one of the more difficult woods to work with because of its hardness. When I finish this knife, I have a special respect for its quality. Boards with contrasting heartwood and sapwood create a somewhat rustic appearance that’s sometimes marketed as Calico Hickory.

Pick this blade up at a Gun & Knife show for steal. I knew just by looking at it that it was worth way more than I paid. Luck me. Nonetheless, it is better than any other fillet knife I own. This will be going into a collection, in a display cabinet, and will likely never see any action. It is that nice!
